The Indian Canyons are the ancestral home of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, a set of palm-filled canyons at the south end of Palm Springs. Fifteen-mile-long Palm Canyon is the centerpiece, lined with a huge stand of native California fan palms, and nearby Andreas and Murray canyons add streams, rock formations and quieter trails. This is not the golf resort of a similar name: it is a hiking and cultural destination.

Trails and Canyons

A moderately graded path drops into Palm Canyon for picnics by the stream, exploring and hiking, and horseback riding is allowed on some routes. Andreas Canyon offers a shaded loop beside running water, while Murray Canyon leads toward the Seven Falls. At the top of Palm Canyon, the Trading Post sells hiking maps, refreshments, Native art, books, jewelry and pottery.

Plan Your Hike

Start early, bring more water than you think you need, and wear real shoes for rocky stretches. Our guide to hiking Indian Canyons covers trail picks and timing.
