The Thousand Palms Oasis, McCallum Oasis, Thousand Palms Canyon, and restored Simone Pond reveal a landscape that ranges from desert wetland and palm woodland to sand dunes and scrub. A boardwalk leads into the oasis area, while trails offer views toward the Little San Bernardino Mountains and the southern edge of Joshua Tree National Park.

Plan Access Before Arriving

The visitor center is permanently closed, though restrooms are open during regular posted hours. On-site public parking is currently unavailable; use street parking where permitted and obey posted No Parking signs. During the hotter part of the year, the oasis area is open weekends only during posted hours, while the nearby Pushawalla and Willis Palms trails remain open daily.

Trail Limits and Preserve Rules

The oasis trails are not suitable for wheelchairs or other mobility devices: gates are narrow, the approach is unpaved and sloped, and surfaces can be sandy, rocky, or stepped. No pets are allowed. Stay on approved trails and leave by closing time. Ordinary visits do not require reservations or permits, but check posted access information before setting out.
